Myofascial Release & Therapeutic Massage

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release
Fascia acts as the body’s protective support system, responding during times of physical injury, surgery, stress, or emotional trauma. It can be thought of as the body’s built-in shock absorber. When the fascial system becomes restricted as a result of these experiences, it puts significant pressure on pain sensitive structures throughout the body. This straightjacket-like tension is the root cause for chronic pain, postural imbalance, limited mobility, and a wide range of other symptoms.
The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach uses gentle, sustained pressure to engage the fascial system and encourage restricted tissue to soften and release, without force. By working with the body instead of against it, this approach supports deep, lasting changes through the mind-body connection. This approach is effective for reducing pain, restoring mobility and alignment, and supporting recovery from injury or surgery. Most importantly, this work is centered around addressing the root cause of pain and symptoms, not just managing them with temporary solutions. Sessions may include self-treatment instruction and home care recommendations to support progress between sessions.
What to expect: Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete a health questionnaire, brief intake, and physical assessment. For your session, wear loose athletic shorts and either a sports bra or loose tank top. Please avoid applying lotion or oils to the skin beforehand, as Myofascial Release is performed directly on the skin without glide or slippage.

About Carolyn
Carolyn is a Licensed Massage Therapist specializing in John F. Barnes Myofascial Release. Her work is rooted in a whole-person approach that honors the interconnectedness of the physical and emotional bodies, and the understanding that the body carries our lived experiences.
Carolyn was drawn to pursue bodywork after experiencing the profound impact of this work herself, and is grateful to be able to share it with her community. She works with clients experiencing chronic pain, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and those recovering from trauma, surgery or injury. Sessions with Carolyn are individualized and centered around presence, patience and careful listening to the body to support the release of restriction and holding patterns that contribute to pain and dysfunction.
Carolyn’s goal is to help clients experience greater ease, freedom, and connection within their bodies so they can move through life with less pain and more joy! Carolyn also believes in empowering clients with the tools and awareness to continue their healing outside of the treatment room.
